Ukraine Plans to Buy Polish Coastal Defense Systems

Ukraine is reportedly negotiating the purchase of a battery for the NSM (Naval Strike Missile) coastal defense system from Poland.

The purchase is expected to be at Ukraine's own expense or with funding from the European Union's military aid fund, the Defense24 website reports.

It added that Poland had held initial talks with Ukraine to supply elements of the NSM's Naval Missile Unit system.

The NSM system uses a command and weapons control system similar to the NASAMS air defense system used by four NATO countries, including the US.

These systems can be tightly integrated and adapted to adjacent nations' weapons and command and control systems.
This expands the defense area and increases the total combat capability of the troops.

The Kongsberg NSM missile is guided by a combined INS/GPS guidance system, augmented by a thermal imaging sensor used in the terminal phase of the engagement.

Its effective firing range is about 200 kilometers.

Besides being used to beat surface warships, missiles are capable of attacking land targets.

The missile weighs 400 kg and is less than 4 m long.

The missile design is stealth with low RCS, making it difficult for the opponent's anti-missile defense missile system to intercept it.
